People credited with this course are able to: use medical oxygen, oropharyngeal airway devices for airway support, bag valve mask ventilation, administration of medications, use lifting devices, O2 saturation monitoring, use of AED and defibrillation. Provide advanced basic life support and secondary survey. Stress management and safe patient movement.
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the completion of the course, you will be able to:
- assess and manage the scene of an emergency situation;
- perform a primary survey to identify any life threats;
- perform a secondary survey;
- demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe patient moving and lifting techniques without injury to self, patient or others;
- demonstrate and apply knowledge of devices and/or techniques to manage patients in an emergency situation;
- monitor patients and provide information in an emergency situation;
- recognise signs of stress in self and apply appropriate strategies to mitigate effects; and
- demonstrate and apply knowledge of requirements relating to patient information and documenting events.
Prerequisites
- Participants must have a current first aid certificate or refresher certificate at the time of assessment (US 6400 or US 23406) or can be completed on the first day of the course if required.
- Numeracy and Literacy: All students must have the ability to write, speak and understand basic English to complete the assessments.
- Students must be 16 years or older to attend this course.
